I’m so excited! I entered my first photography competition tonight, and I won an honorable mention!! There were three categories (digital, and Black/White-printed and color-printed) with 115 images, and the theme was “Wild Animals.”
I have been a member of the Southeastern Photographic Society (SPS) on Meetup.com for over three years, but had yet to attend a meeting… almost always because of conflicts. But finally, I joined as a full member and went to my first meeting tonight.
They had an informative speaker, and then the submissions, and then the winner announcements.
They have a competition and speaker (like tonight) once a month, a learning seminar once a month, a coffee-and-critique once a month, and then actual photo shoot events usually one or two times a month, sometimes more.
If you’re in the Atlanta area and interested in photography, I think it’s a great place to meet like-minded enthusiasts. I’m looking forward to learning more and starting to go on more shoots. I encourage you to look them up online if you’re interested.

That is very cool! You are extremely talented, and I’m sure it’s nice to have relative strangers–people besides your mother and me and others who already think you’re awesome–to tell you so. So is that meerkat? Where did you find a meerkat to take a picture of?
Thanks, Lynn! Yes, it’s a meerkat at the Atlanta Zoo. Until I go on a safari, I guess this is where all of my “wild animals” will have to come from.
