Fritill-Dee-Dee

As I was looking through some old photos, I found this butterfly and liked it. And since I don’t have a new one to add, I thought I’d use it. This is a Gulf Fritillary butterfly. As a caterpillar, its skin is toxic, so birds won’t eat it. Its only other predator is larger caterpillars. Underneath the wings is absolutely gorgeous with lots of intricate white markings, but unfortunately, none of the ones I saw would sit still while I shot from underneath them. :)

Butterflies are so cool. I love the delicate designs, colors, and shapes they exhibit, but more than that, how they all come from fat, little, slug-like beasts. Metamorphosis is an awesome thing, and I’m sure there are life lessons in there if we want to find them. :)

I hope everyone has a great Monday!
