This beautiful chess set was my birthday gift from Sarah. It was hand carved in India and made of sheesham (dark) and kadam (light) wood. I took several photos from both sides… light in the foreground, dark in the background, and vice-versa. While I think the dark looks better/richer in real life, the light shows the detail better in the photo.
There’s something very relaxing about having a couple of hours to play a game of chess with someone who’s near your skill level (and mine is just beyond beginner). I think I enjoy it even more having beautiful pieces to move around the board. Kind of like how food seems to taste better when eaten out of “the good plates.” :)
